Improving the valorisation of new slaughterhouse co-products to produce snacks for dogs
From MAFRICA the project "Improvement of the valorisation of new co-products of slaughterhouse to produce snacks for dogs" has been carried out - PET TREATS. PERIOD: 2018-2021.
This is a demonstration project of a new process to obtain value-added commercial products from the recovery of pig slaughterhouse co-products that currently have a recovery with a low economic and environmental value and that present certain difficulties of exploitation.
Over the last few months, the company has carried out several pilot tests and tests to determine which co-products have the greatest viability of use. They currently have satisfactory results, both technologically and commercially for the use of flap (ear without ear), is currently working on improving the process in order to take advantage of other co-products such as esophagus, trachea, aorta, and moon bone, which are already known to be recoverable if satisfactory treatment is achieved and a slight physical or chemical transformation results in a valuable product.
The project aims to solve the challenge of modifying the process of obtaining and treating these new co-products in order to mainly eliminate the fat and stabilize it in such a way that it can be a marketable product. form of "dog snack".
